The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Ramsbury and Wanborough Surgery, Marlborough, Wiltshire, to be Outstanding following an inspection in December 2015.
Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all of England’s GP practices are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.
The inspection team, which included a GP and a practice manager as specialist advisors, rated the services provided by Ramsbury & Wanborough Surgery as Outstanding overall.
A full report of the inspection has been published today.
The surgery located at Whittonditch Road, Ramsbury, Marlborough, serves over 8,900 patients.
The report highlights a number of areas of outstanding practice, including:
- Provision of a bus service to bring patients from rural locations to their appointments.
- Elderly patients living in care homes had their needs reviewed by the GPs in conjunction with a specialist in care of the elderly on a monthly basis.
- Access to emergency care beds for the elderly in local nursing homes reducing reliance on hospital services for care of the elderly.
- Both the main and branch practices were open on Saturday mornings offering pre-booked and on the day appointments. The dispensary’s at both were also open on Saturday morning. This meant patients who were unable to collect their medicines during the week could do so on Saturday morning.
Professor Steve Field, Chief Inspector of General Practice said:
“I am delighted to highlight the exceptional service at Ramsbury & Wanborough Surgery, people are entitled to services which provide safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care. The GPs and staff at the surgery have worked hard to demonstrate a real commitment to their patients. All of this hard work and dedication pays off in making a real difference for their patients – which is why we have found this practice to be Outstanding. I hope other practices will see this as a model for excellent care.”
