The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found the quality of care provided by the Dysart Surgery to be Outstanding following an inspection carried out in February 2015.

Inspectors found that the surgery was providing a safe, caring, effective and well-led service that was particularly responsive to the needs of the local community.

Dysart Surgery provides a primary medical service to patients living in and around Bromley, South London.

A full report of the inspection has been published today.

Michele Golden, Head of General Practice Inspection for London, said:

“We found that the Dysart Surgery is providing an Outstanding service, particularly for people whose circumstances may make them vulnerable.

“We were particularly impressed with the practice’s work to initiate positive service improvements for local patients and the commitment of all staff to continuously seek improved outcomes for local people.

“Staff demonstrated a sound understanding of the differing needs of their patients and reflected these needs when planning and delivering services. This is a great example of what outstanding care looks like.”

Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all primary medical services in England are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

The report on the Dysart Surgery highlights a number of areas of outstanding practice, including:

  • Swift action was taken in response to patient feedback and suggestions for improvement, resulting in changes to service delivery.  Examples include the introduction of Saturday morning nurse appointments to help improve cervical screening access and uptake, premise adjustments to improve privacy in the surgery reception area, and clear publication and signposting to the full range of services available.
  • All surgery patients had a named GP, enabling targeted support and continuity of care. The surgery was led by a dedicated and stable leadership team, many of whom had trained at the surgery.
  • The surgery actively engaged with the local community by participating in local projects to help reduce isolation and increase support for vulnerable patients, presenting health promotion sessions at local schools, and offering rapid access to therapeutic support for young people aged up to 18 years.
