We have published our second annual report into the state of health and adult social care in England.
The latest report reveals that services provided during the lead up to the Health and Social Care Act 2008 improved.
- People who used services particularly had greater control over their care.
- More care homes and home care services met the essential standards.
- The quality of care commissioned by councils between September 2008 and September 2009 improved.
However, the findings also show that there is still room for improvement.
- Mental health services in particular need to involve users more greatly, especially when planning their care and reviewing treatment.
- As many as 40% of patients were not told what danger signals to watch out for after they went home from hospital.
We will publish another report later this year that will look at the quality of health and social care services provided under the new act.
