Today we publish the response to our second set of proposals that aim to simplify and strengthen the way we regulate health and social care in England.

We ran the consultation from June to August this year. People could tell us their views through an online survey or at consultation events. We received a total of 380 responses during the consultation period. We also held 10 consultation events in June and July 2017 with providers, stakeholder organisations and members of the public.

We have listened to what you have told us. We will begin to implement changes to registration so we can hold people to account at the right level when regulating providers.

We will also:

  • Change the way we regulate primary medical and adult social care services. This includes how we monitor providers and the frequency and scope of inspections
  • Develop how we will monitor, inspect and rate new models of care and large or complex providers
  • Update our approach to the ‘fit and proper persons’ requirement

Our next step is to implement these changes, and these will be introduced in a phased approach.
