We have a number of responsibilities under the controlled drugs regulations, including reporting annually on controlled drug-related activity in England.
Our report for 2015, published today, highlights local and national initiatives to promote the safe use of controlled drugs and to reduce harm from their misuse. The report also includes an overview of data for 2015 on prescribing of controlled drugs across England in the primary care sector, identifies any trends in prescribing and highlights key changes to legislation.
The report makes three recommendations to strengthen existing arrangements for reporting and sharing concerns about controlled drugs across England. Consistent information should be collected across England, this should be provided in a timely way and local authorities should engage with their controlled drugs local intelligence networks to share concerns relating to services they commission.
