We are simplifying and strengthening our regulatory model to reflect our focus on monitoring and inspecting services.

The changes we are making will result in most services being inspected more often and our inspections becoming more targeted. We will make clear that where providers are not meeting national standards, swift action will follow.

The way we publish information for the public will also change; it will be clearer, more accessible and it will support choice.

Monitor, the foundation trust regulator, will look at how to reflect changes to the CQC’s operations in its own regulatory approach.

Judgement framework and enforcement policy consultation

As some of these refinements affect our key guidance, we are holding a consultation to give the public, providers, commissioners, stakeholders and our staff the chance to give us feedback on our model.
