The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Montrose House in Ipswich to be Outstanding following an inspection in April.

Montrose House is a residential care home that provides care for up to 10 people, living with long term mental health conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Montrose House is rated Outstanding for being effective and well-led, and Good for being safe, caring and responsive.

Jemima Burnage, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said:

“Our inspection team was really impressed by the level of care and support offered to people at Montrose House.

“We found there was a culture of listening to people at Montrose House. The service was positive about learning from events, so incidents were not repeated. As a result the quality of the service continued to develop.

“Feedback from health and social care professionals gave examples of collaborative and effective working relationships. Montrose House was awarded care home of the year in 2017 at the Suffolk care awards.

“Care staff were exceptional at supporting people with their dietary needs and people were supported to maintain good health and access healthcare services.

“People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and care staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and people told us that they felt safe and well cared for.

“People received personalised care that was responsive to their needs. They participated in meaningful activities and were supported to pursue their interests. The service listened to people's experiences, concerns and complaints and took action where needed.

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:

“The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
