2 March 2011
Following a visit by inspectors to Pilgrim Hospital, run by United Lincolnshire NHS Trust, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the trust was not taking appropriate steps to ensure that people receive effective, safe and appropriate care to meet their needs.
Care plans did not always reflect the needs of patients; and risk assessments in relation to falls, pressure sores and nutrition did not always provide enough detail, or contain clear actions to minimise risk. In addition, people were not always given the support they needed to eat and drink.
CQC has demanded the trust take immediate action to ensure that patients receive the assessment and support necessary to get the care they need.
The trust must fully address these issues by 31 May 2011. If the trust fails to comply, our next steps may include prosecution or closure of services.
Any regulatory decision that CQC takes is open to challenge by a registered person through a variety of internal and external appeal processes.
We have told the provider it must make immediate improvements at United Lincolnshire NHS Trust. We will shortly publish our latest report on United Lincolnshire NHS Trust.
