Peppard House Care Home rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission

Peppard House Care Home in Woodcote Road, Reading, Berkshire has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission following a recent inspection.

Inspectors rated the service Outstanding for being responsive to people’s needs and well-led and Good for being safe, effective and caring. The overall rating was Outstanding.

Peppard House is a care home (without nursing) which provides services for up to seven people with learning disabilities. There were four people resident at the time of the inspection.

Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said;

“The staff and management of Peppard House have provided outstanding care in a committed and enthusiastic manner whilst promoting an ethos of treating people with kindness, dignity and respect. Caring needs have been met in a way that is person-centred, fosters effective communication and ensures both health and emotional well-being.

“The service was rated Good overall after our previous inspection in February 2016 and I am delighted that the standard of care provided has continued to improve and has now achieved our highest overall rating of Outstanding. I would like to extend my congratulations to the service, whose staff and management should be proud of their achievement”

Some of the key findings from the inspection included:

  • The service was exceptionally responsive and strove to meet people's aspirations and lifestyle choices. It was flexible and readily adapted to meet people's changing, diverse and complex needs. It was extraordinarily person centred and people were seen and responded to as individuals.
  • The registered manager was extremely experienced, respected and highly thought of by staff, families and other professionals. She and the staff team were committed to ensuring they offered people the very best care possible and that people were as involved as possible in running the service.
  • Staff were trained in safeguarding people and knew what action to take if they identified any concerns. The service identified general health and safety and individual risks. Action was taken to reduce identified risks. All aspects of safety were considered and actions were taken to assist people to remain as safe as possible.
