The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Corner House Residential Care Home in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, to be Outstanding following an inspection in October.

Corner House Residential Care Home provides care for up to 11 people who have a learning disability. When CQC inspected there were 11 people living at the home. The service was last inspected in August 2015 and rated as Good at that time.

As a result of the most recent inspection, the rating for the home is now rated as Outstanding overall.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care. A full inspection report has been published on CQC’s website: www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-1473745376

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Corner House Residential Care Home is rated Outstanding for being safe, caring, responsive and well-led, and Good for being effective.

Rob Assall-Marsden, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said:

“Our inspection team was really impressed by the level of care and support offered to people at Corner House Residential Care Home.

“Staff used innovative methods to support people in maintaining their own safety, the safety of others and to live as independent lives as possible.

“There were clear processes in place to continually review accidents and incidents and to learn from mistakes. Staff were well trained and their practice was regularly assessed to aid development and improve the quality of support people received.

“People were encouraged to choose to do their own shopping, make healthy food and drink choices, to lead a healthy lifestyle and they were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.

“We found staff who were kind, caring, empathetic and compassionate, and the staff and management team worked together to provide people with excellent support to lead fulfilling lives and to reach their potential. People's support plans were person-centred and focused on providing high quality outcomes for them, in line with their personal preferences.

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:

“The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
