Dr Muthulingam Sathananthan’s Manor House Practice in Feltham, has been rated as Inadequate overall by the Care Quality Commission and placed into special measures.
The practice, which looks after about 2,000 patients and is situated in the London borough of Hounslow, was rated Inadequate for being effective and well-led. It was rated Requires Improvement for being safe and Good for being caring and responsive, following an inspection in February 2017.
CQC Inspectors found that although the practice had made some improvements in the provision of safe services since CQC’s previous inspection in 2017. However, some concerns had not been addressed sufficiently in relation to: staff training; managing emergency medicines; medicines management as a whole and staff recruitment.
There was no formal ongoing programme of quality improvement, including clinical audit.
The principal GP lacked sufficient management support and this had impacted on his capacity to lead effectively and consistently deliver high-quality, sustainable care.
The areas where the trust must now make improvements include:
- Ensuring care and treatment is provided in a safe way to patients.
- Establish effective systems and processes to ensure good governance.
However, staff treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. Patients who were carers were identified and offered appropriate support. Patients found the appointment system easy to use and the majority said they were able to access care when they needed it.
Professor Ursula Gallagher, Deputy Chief Inspector, Primary Medical Services, said:
“I am very concerned that Manor House Surgery has not made the necessary progress since the last inspection. As a result we are placing the practice into special measures.
“Services placed in special measures will be inspected again within six months. If there is not enough improvement we will move to close the service by adopting our proposal to remove this location or cancel the provider’s registration.
“Special measures will give people who use the service the reassurance that the care they get should improve.”
