The Care Quality Commission has rated the care being provided by Eliot Gardens, in Wigan, to be Outstanding after an inspection in November last year.

The service is registered to provide personal care to people in extra care housing. At the time of the inspection there were 35 people being supported by the service, 18 of whom received care regulated by CQC.

The latest inspection marks the first time the service has been rated, since becoming registered with CQC in December 2017. Eliot Gardens was rated Outstanding overall and for services that are effective, responsive and well-led. Safe and caring services were rated Good.

A full report of the inspection has been published on the CQC website: www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-4581309333

Sheila Grant - Head of Inspection (North Central), Adult Social Care said:

“Our inspection of the service found a supportive and enabling culture driven by the desire to help people live fulfilling and unrestricted lives.

“Staff worked hard to understand people’s care needs and empowered them to achieve their personal goals, supporting them with reintroducing healthy diets as well as social and physical activities which led to improvements in people’s wellbeing.

“We also saw how staff had built caring relationships with the people they supported and prioritised their emotional wellbeing, helping them to become more confident and independent in their daily lives.

“We found that the registered manager was proactive in promoting and developing best practice throughout the service, driven by the provider’s organisation of the service. People, their relatives and healthcare professionals all praised the care being provided and the way the service was managed. Everyone at the service should be very proud their achievement, well done.”
