The Care Quality Commission has rated LANCuk Heywood, an assessment and treatment service for children and adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism, as Requires Improvement following an inspection in January 2019.
A team of inspectors visited LANCuk Heywood, in Lancashire, to follow up on the concerns identified in the July 2018 inspection. Previously inspectors found that the service was not ensuring staff were receiving safeguarding training, or being subject to robust recruitment checks. There were further concerns over the governance arrangements, supervision of staff performance and monitoring the quality of the service being provided. Two warning notices were issued, setting a deadline for improvements and the service was rated Inadequate overall.
At the latest inspection many of the previous concerns had not been addressed by the leadership team and there were continued failures in the supervision of staff and managerial oversight. Inspectors had to request information, using legal powers, in relation to warning notices that were served previously, because the registered manager had not submitted the required evidence in time. The service had also failed to display its previous inspection rating, in line with the regulations. A copy of the latest report can be found at: www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-4401633850
However, some improvements were seen in the safety of the service and staff were knowledgeable on identifying safeguarding concerns and how to report them. Patient feedback was consistently positive and staff were actively involving them in their care decisions. Staff got to know and understand their patients and their healthcare needs well, enabling them to tailor the support being provided.
Whilst some improvements were seen and the overall rating of the service improved to Requires Improvement, there was not enough positive change to prevent the service from being placed into special measures.
