The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Woodhurst in Watford to be Outstanding following an inspection in September and October.

Woodhurst, which is run by New Directions Flexible Social Care Solutions Ltd, provides accommodation and personal care for up to six people who have autism spectrum disorder and or mental health conditions.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.

A full inspection report has been published on our website.

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Woodhurst is rated Outstanding for being safe, effective and well-led, and Good for being caring and responsive.

Jemima Burnage, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said:

“Our inspection team was really impressed by the level of care and support offered to people at Woodhurst.

“People told us they felt safe living at the home, staff were knowledgeable about their conditions and were able to promptly identify changes in what people needed. There was a clear safety culture at the home where people being cared for were involved in developing policies, procedures and safety protocols with staff."

“Staff discussed any risks with residents and enabled them to take decisions to help mitigate these to keep them safe."

“People at the home had busy social lives and were always active, whether at the home or in the community. They were able to maintain hobbies and interests that they enjoyed doing and, while staff supported people when required, people were able to organise a range of social events and activities for themselves."

“Regular meetings were held where those receiving care could give feedback to the service and had a representative to put forward their views. People told us they felt consulted and involved in all aspects of the running of their home."

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:

“The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements."

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
