The Care Quality Commission has inspected The Anchorage – Care Home, in Grimsby, in May and June this year and rated it Outstanding. The Anchorage is run by H I C A and provides accommodation and personal care for up to 40 people. At the time of the inspection 39 people were living at the home.
The Anchorage was rated as Outstanding overall and for being caring, responsive and well-led, and Good for being safe and effective.
Debbie Westhead – Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care said:
“Person-centred care was clearly at the heart of this service, we received many positive comments about the care being provided and how much it meant to the people there. We saw that staff spent quality time with people and got to know them, their history and their care needs personally.
“Staff knew people so well in fact, that they were expert in communicating with them in a caring and effective manner and were able to resolve any issues quickly. The provider worked effectively with other healthcare professionals, providers and stakeholders ensuring there was a coordinated approach to people’s care.
“The care was underpinned by strong and consistent management, and they were heavily involved in programs designed to support the well-being of people and develop best practice. My congratulations to a service that continued to improve and is now Outstanding.”
Some of the findings from the inspection included:
- The service provided people access to video communication technology, helping people have face to face conversations with relatives and friends over long distance.
- Staff were empowered to challenge poor care and develop best practice by being appointed champions for dignity, dementia and diversity.
- Staff were active in protecting people against being socially isolated, encouraging people to become involved in activities and used innovative techniques to engage them.
- The service dealt with end of life care in a respectful way, staff often attending people’s funerals and offering further emotional support to their families.
