The Care Quality Commission has again rated Rosebank Care Home in Bampton, Oxfordshire as Outstanding following an inspection in January.
Inspectors rated the service Outstanding for being responsive to people’s needs and caring and Good for being safe, effective and well-led. The overall rating was Outstanding.
Rosebank Care Home is a residential care home, without nursing providing personal care to 22 people, most of whom were living with dementia.
Rebecca Bauers, Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the South, said;
“People living at Rosebank Care home continuing to receive exceptional care with services developed and tailored to their needs. At the same time staff promoted engagement with the community and each other.
“Staff spent time building meaningful and valued relationships, treating people with compassion, kindness and respect.
“It was clear throughout the inspection, that the staff took pride in their work and went the extra mile for the people they supported. Not only have they kept to a level of excellence but they have taken our report to heart and tried to explore what else they could do to improve the care they offer their clients. I would like to congratulate the service on attaining an overall rating of Outstanding again.”
Inspectors watched as a staff member notice another person was feeling anxious and agitated. The member of staff sat next to the person and sang to them. This had a visible and immediate effect with the person becoming calm, settled and eventually joining in with the song. The staff member said, "When this person is anxious singing calms and soothes them." Staff understood people's individual needs. The homes ethos of care for the individual meant people received personalised care built on compassion and commitment.
Staff used people's personal histories to improve their lives. One person, living with dementia was restless with behaviours that challenged others. Staff discovered the person was an 'outdoors' type with a passion for horses. A nearby stables was willing to help the person and when they visited for the first time, staff saw an immediate improvement in their condition. One staff member said the person was, "Transformed." As a result this person's medicines were able to be reduced and their well-being improved.
