The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has told Partridge House Nursing and Residential Care Home that it must improve to comply with all essential standards of quality and safety.

Partridge House is a purpose built home that was developed between Anchor Trust, ARDIS and Brighton and Hove Social Services to provide care for 38 older people with mental health problems.

Anchor trust is a ‘not for profit’ organisation and ARDIS is a local charity.

CQC found that Partridge House Nursing and Residential Care Home was fully compliant with 12 of the 16 essential standards of quality and safety.

However, we had major concerns with one essential standard:

  • Care and welfare of people who use services
There was insufficient detail in care plans and care records to ensure that the people using the service received the care they required. We found that care records such as fluid charts were not being monitored by registered nurses to ensure that care was being given.

CQC has told the provider to send us a report within 28 days of them receiving this report, setting out the action they will take to improve. We will check to make sure that the improvements have been made.

CQC Regional Director for the South East, Roxy Boyce, said: “Care provided by Partridge House fell short of standards people should be able to expect.

“We have told the care home where it needs to do more to comply. We have asked them to tell us what action they will take to improve. We will check to make sure that the improvements have been made.”

Under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the Care Quality Commission has a number of enforcement powers that enable it to act swiftly when services are failing people. These include issuing warning notices, restricting the services that a provider can offer or the way it is provided or, in the most serious cases, suspending or cancelling a service. CQC can also issue financial penalty notices and cautions or prosecute the provider for failing to meet essential standards.
