The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has praised Dr Hugh Wright’s practice at Maida Vale Medical Centre for making significant improvements. It has now been rated Good overall and the service is no longer in special measures.
The practice provides primary care services to residents in Maida Vale, north west London. Following an inspection in February, it was rated Inadequate overall and Inadequate in relation to whether it was safe or well-led.
At that point CQC issued the provider with a warning notice and the service was placed in special measures. Special measures give people who use the service reassurance that the care they receive should improve.
Inspectors returned on 3 December to carry out a comprehensive inspection. Following this, Dr Hugh Wright’s practice was rated Good overall and Good for providing safe, effective, responsive and well-led services.
CQC’s deputy chief inspector of primary medical services, Vicki Wells, said:
“We rated Dr Hugh Wright’s practice Good overall because it has made significant improvements to the quality of care provided, and we are now satisfied that it is keeping patients safe and protected from avoidable harm. There is a clear leadership structure in place and staff feel supported by management. This ensures that patients receive effective care and treatment that meets their needs.”
The service was rated Requires Improvement for providing caring services. This is because it achieved lower scores in the National GP Patient Survey compared to the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is NHS Central London (Westminster), and the average score across England.
Full details of the inspection are given in the report published on the CQC website here.
