The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has taken action after it identified serious risks to patient safety at a Lancashire nursing home during a focused inspection in December.
As a result of this inspection CQC has placed Cleveleys Nursing Home, Lancashire, in special measures. CQC rated the safety and whether the service was well-led as Inadequate.
This gives the nursing home an overall rating of Inadequate. CQC carried out this unannounced focused inspection following concerns raised about the care of patients and the infection, prevention and control measures in place to protect people from COVID-19.
Hayley Moore, CQCs interim head of inspection for adult social care said:
“Following this inspection, we have placed Cleveleys Nursing Home in special measures, which means it will be kept under review and it will be re-inspected to check that significant improvements have been made.
“When we carried out this inspection, the home showed infection control was not of a standard for reducing and managing the risk of infection outbreaks. Since our visit, we are aware that the provider has made some improvements including increasing routine cleaning and improving infection control processes.
“The nursing home is required to have a nurse on duty 24 hours a day, we found significant periods where there was not a nurse on duty.
“We are pleased to see that the provider has made some improvements since our inspection and is aware what additional changes need to be made. We will return in due course to ensure the improvements made have been thoroughly embedded.”
Full details of CQC’s findings are in the report which has been published on the CQC website.
