Anerley Surgery, in Anerley Road, Bromley, has been rated Inadequate overall by the Care Quality Commission and placed into special measures. The practice is under new management.
It was rated Inadequate for being safe and well-led. It was rated Requires Improvement for being effective and caring and Good for being responsive, following an inspection in October 2018.
Inspectors found that patients on high risk medicines were not being monitored properly.
The leadership lacked the capacity and strategy to provide effective arrangements and systems, which led to governance, policy and procedural failures.
The practice was not acting effectively or in a timely fashion on tasks raised on the clinical recording system.
Areas where the practice must now make improvements include:
- Ensuring care and treatment is provided in a safe way to patients.
- Establishing effective systems and processes to ensure good governance in accordance with the fundamental standards of care.
Areas where the practice should now make improvements include:
- Exploring ways to improve uptake of cervical screening and childhood immunisations.
- Explore ways to monitor and improve patient satisfaction with involvement in consultations.
However, patients found the appointments system easy to use and they could access care when they needed it. Staff involved and treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
Professor Ursula Gallagher, Deputy Chief Inspector, Primary Medical Services, said: “Anerley Surgery needs significant changes to improve its Inadequate rating and I will be looking for these improvements the next time we inspect.
“We have placed Anerley Surgery into special measures. This will give people who use the service the reassurance that the care they get should improve.”
