During a routine inspection
The surgery had an active patient participation group. Staff and group representatives told us that recent changes had taken place as a result of identified concerns. This included a redesign of the reception and waiting area layout as well as action to improve patient waiting times.
Patients told us that they could make an appointment to see their GP or nurse without any problems. One patient gave an example of needing an emergency appointment and told us 'I was seen right away." This was supported by another patient who said 'If they can fit you in they do."
Patients told us that they were satisfied with the systems in place for referring them for specialist care. A patient told us that "referrals are very speedy." All patients told us that there was "good communication between doctors."
All patients we spoke with commented that the surgery was clean. A recent infection control audit of the practice included the assessment of hand hygiene, waste management, and the cleanliness of the practice. All medical devices in the practice were single-use and were disposed of safely after use.
Patients were protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines. The temperature of the fridges, used to store vaccines requiring cold storage, was measured and recorded daily to ensure the vaccines remained effective.
The provider took account of complaints and comments to improve the service. There was a complaints policy in place and this was made available to all patients via the surgery website, the surgery notice board, and surgery information leaflet.
