During a routine inspection
We spoke with a patient after their consultation. They told us, 'The doctor explained the procedure and the cost involved. The nurse later explained the preparation required and the effects of the local anaesthetic and things to watch for post-operatively.'
This was echoed by another patient who said, 'The consultation was very thorough. They asked about my general state of health. They asked me why I wanted further treatment and explained the risks to me.'
We found that prospective patients had been given the information they needed to help them make the right decision and valid consent had been obtained before treatment began. One person said, 'Everything was explained to me clearly. I didn't feel rushed. I signed the consent form when I was ready.'
The members of staff we spoke with knew their role and had knowledge of the safeguarding policy and procedure. They were aware of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the importance of recordkeeping and maintaining confidentiality.
