28 March 2014

During an inspection looking at part of the service

At the last inspection in December 2013 we found that the systems in place for ensuring the clinic was clean and hygienic were not always being implemented. There had been shortcomings in the management of clinical waste and in the training of staff. The service had not been complying with the regulation in relation to cleanliness and infection control.

Following the inspection in December 2013, we received a plan from the provider which set out the actions they were taking in order to comply with this regulation.

We visited the clinic again on 28 March 2014 in order to check on the action that had been taken. During the visit we looked at the premises and the arrangements in place for infection control and for maintaining a clean environment. We did not speak with people who used the service on this occasion.

We found that improvements had been made and we judged that the service was now compliant. Staff had received training in infection control. Overall, there were suitable arrangements in place for ensuring that the clinic was clean and hygienic.

2 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We were unable to speak to people who used the service as no one was available during the inspection.

People were given all the information they needed to make an informed decision about their care and treatment. Staff were observed to be respectful and helpful when speaking to people on the telephone and at reception.

The needs of people were assessed and treatment delivered in a way to meet the requirements of people who used the service. People were involved in discussions about their needs and were able to make informed choices about their treatment.

There were systems in place to ensure that the clinic was clean, hygienic and fit for purpose but were not always implemented. The areas we saw in the clinic were visibly clean. However, the management of clinical waste and infection control training for staff required attention.

There was a complaints procedure in place that was accessible to people using the service.
