At the time of our inspection the audiologist was providing support to an ear nose and throat clinic that was being held in the adjacent outpatient department. Patients also attended the clinic for hearing aid follow up. We also visited the provider's offices and met with the registered manager and reviewed the computerised clinical records. The registered manager told us that the service had started to support a paediatric ear nose and throat clinic in the adjacent outpatients department in May 2012.
We spoke with two people who used the service. One person told us 'They offered me a very quick appointment. I am very pleased with the service.'
On member of staff told us 'I love working here. We are well supported and undertake lots of training.'
During our inspection we found that the provider did not have a policy in place relating to the safeguarding of children, and that the provider's staff had not undertaken training in the protection of children.
We reviewed the files of three members of the provider's staff. None of these files contained records of a induction training.
We also found that the provider did not have effective systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service provided.
