During a routine inspection
People we spoke with were positive about the quality of care and treatment received. One person commented, 'this is a really well run practice with helpful and obliging staff.'
Staff we spoke with demonstrated an understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. They had recently received safeguarding training and were able to describe possible symptoms of abuse such as dental neglect, personality changes and/or physical marks.
We saw that the provider kept records of daily autoclave unit tests and monthly ultrasonic unit tests. These machines are used to clean and sterilise dental instruments. At the time of our inspection, we saw that annual servicing was four days overdue for both units. We were advised by the provider that these had been booked for the following week.
We saw that the front page of provider's patient records highlighted medical conditions that might impact on dental treatment (e.g. penicillin allergy) and that these were also shown on the computer screen when the patient record was accessed. This meant that the provider had accurate records to help identify and manage risks in relation to providing dental care.
