During an inspection looking at part of the service

Safeguarding investigations were still taking place when we visited.

Walsall Council had put a suspension on any new placements. This meant that there were no people accessing the respite service.

There were four people living there at the time of our visit. Two people were out at a day centre and one person went out for a pub lunch.

People who live at the home have limited verbal communication. However information about how people communicate their needs and how staff should support their communication needs within the home was very limited. Which means that people may not get all their needs met in a way that they prefer.

Further training and development of the staff team is needed so that they can meet the individual needs of people living there.

Staff have had training on protecting people from the risk of harm and on what they should do if they had concerns about people's wellbeing.

The provider had appointed a new manager into the home so that things would be improved for the people living there.

The manager was able to tell us what had improved and what needs improving so people's individual needs are met and they are safe.

During a routine inspection

Some of the people living at the home were not able to tell us about their experiences of the home.

One person said 'Food is okay' and 'Sometimes I help to make a cup of tea'.

We saw staff try and engage with people who had limited verbal communication. People went out to the park and were offered choices about what they wanted to drink.

People were well presented and wearing clothes suitable to their age and gender.

Improvements are needed so people receive the care they need to keep them well and safe.
